Robyn and Nick = hitched. | Santa Cruz – San Jose Wedding Photographer

Recently I had the pleasure of celebrating the marriage of Robyn and Nick in Nisene Marks State Park, Aptos. I was there as a stand-in for my friend and local photographer Katrine Kruger who was called out of town at the last minute. I’m not sure if the happy couple knew they would be getting such an unconventional photographer. It turns out that we were all the perfect fit.

In life, and art – there are many angles.

Robyn and Nick were the lucky winners of a promotion from Mapleton Communications and won their dream wedding day. They chose to celebrate with friends in their home with a champagne toast before hiking into the forest. The hike into Nisene Marks was beautiful, the river I waded through was the perfect cool down on a hot day! We reached the twisted grove and stood as their friend Rich read ‘The Lovely Love Story’ by Edward Monkton and guided them in sharing their vows. All under the protection and glory of the mighty redwoods. It was rather spectacular. The forest was glorious, their words were thoughtful and sincere, and more than one round of laughter was heard. I felt like I should pinch myself to check I wasn’t dreaming.

The evening reception was held at Cava Wine Bar, in Capitola. What a fabulous place to be. Easy access to the beach, great ambience and super friendly hosts. Not being a drinker I was thankful for their rootbeer and ginger ale.!!!
Great music was provided by Santa Cruz DJ Services

Robyn and Nick were deservedly celebrated by their wonderful friends. Thanks for letting me tag along. arohanui, “may you continue to stand together, on a hill, telling each other stories and feeling the warmth on the sun on your backs”….as you melt each other still.  xoxo gail

Patricia and Rafael | all the juicy details | Santa Cruz, San Jose Wedding Photographer

Recently I was blessed with photographing the wedding of Patricia and Rafael. Friends of mine. And I lucked out big time by having Marcy Diaz come to assist me – we had an absolute BLAST!!!!

Patricia is a local photographer in the San Jose area you can view her work HERE. Patty and Rafa are both Brazilian so when she asked me, I KNEW it would be a fabulous wedding with colour, movement, lots of laughter, dancing and beautiful details. Is it crazy to think of Brazilians like that? I think not because with this wedding, it was all that and more. As a photographer always on the lookout for eye candy details, I was NOT disappointed! at! all! In fact, so much amazing detail went into this wedding that I kind of wanted to marry Mike all over again just so I could have all this goodness to photograph:)Patty and her good friend Vanessa created this eye candy together. And they did an outstanding job. Patricia made her own bouquet and I think I have a bazillion images of it, because I loved it so very much.

The wedding was held at a wonderful little bed and breakfast in Bodega, http://www.fernandosbedandbreakfast.com/ The hosts were very warm and friendly and the environs was spectacular. They catered the event also with a delicious meal. Can’t say enough about this incredibly little place. In fact, Mike and I are planning a little getaway ourselves here….as soon as we can find a babysitter. xoxo

The people post is coming soon, but for now, check out all the delicious, juicy details. Perfection!

Love blooms in Texas.

I wont tell a lie, I love shooting couples. I love it because they are so into each other, and therefore pay little attention to the camera, I love it  because each time I get the chance to photograph a couple, I fall in love with love all over again.  And Carl and Claire made my heart swoon. They are the most adorable, totally into each other couple that you will ever meet. I wish you all the best for your future together xoxox

Here comes the bride…

I’ve been asked many times if I shoot weddings, and I have always answered “NO”. The stress of a wedding shoot is too much for me, mainly because of the ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ pressure and because weddings are “THE-most-important-day” in a girl’s life, the one she has planned in her head for the last 20 years. The day that all that signature practice with HIS last name has been for…you know… it’s their wedding day and it should be perfect.

The truth is, I have never wanted to be the primary shooter.
Then my friend Katrine from Katrine Kruger Photography asked me if I would assist her on a wedding she had booked on August 7th. I had a mild panic attack then agreed wholeheartedly.  And I am so glad I did because it was a fantastic experience!

Here’s my self portrait taken in the bumper of a Bel Air ’56, the most beautiful car I have seen in a long time.

Craig and Stephanie opted to see each other in private prior to the wedding. Craig stood at the front of the church with his back turned, Stephanie entered and stood just behind him. Craig turned and the most beautiful smile spread across his face. She smiled, stepped closer and started to cry. He whispered to her that it was okay for her to cry, and I asked if it was okay for us to cry too? It was an incredibly moving moment.

The ceremony was lovely. A great reminder of the covenants and commitments we make to each other and God. I felt a little choked up and a whole lot more in love with my man.

Now for the full on colour.

The bride and groom, just back from the scenic drive through the back roads of Watsonville, between the church and their reception spot.

Thanks Katrine for the great day shooting together! You rock!

Gail,

I used to have a 56 Bel Air the same color as your picture.
Alas it wasn’t a convertible. But I miss that car.

Jules - August 12, 2010 - 11:36 am

totally gorgy, friend!

Patricia Rossi - August 12, 2010 - 11:47 am

LO-VE-LY……
Would you photograph my wedding?

Tiffany - August 12, 2010 - 4:26 pm

I love to do weddings it is my favorite thing in the whole world to photograph! My favorite place is the temple and I love doing the Bride and Groom only I do hate the family shots!

a big behind… | Family Matters - August 12, 2010 - 6:01 pm

[...] Then I shot my first wedding on Saturday – I was a second shooter which was super fun for me, you can capture the details without the stress of it all. But I didn’t really do a good job of shooting details as I blew my flash rendering it useless right as the wedding party were entering the the very dark church. Bad bad timing! But I was able to make a few suggestions for shots, which also made it fun for me. You can see a few photos of the wedding HERE [...]

stacy - August 13, 2010 - 6:29 am

what a great opportunity! i think second shooting would be a lot less stressful! and you rocked it Gail! you’re talent is immeasurable! you’re amazing!

Katrine - August 14, 2010 - 11:45 am

It was awesome working with you Gail… lets do it again:)
